Volleyball Trimatches Heating Up

East Cobb teams continue to wind down their regular seasons with twin bills on Thursday.

It will be Senior Night for the Wheeler volleyball team tonight as the local high school regular season continues to wind down with a host of trimatches.

Unlike their East Cobb rivals Pope and Walton, the Lady Wildcats haven't had much to cheer about this season. They're 6-14 after dropping both ends of a trimatch to Walton and Lassiter on Tuesday.

Tonight, Wheeler plays Etowah (17-15) at 5 p.m. and then Woodstock (10-10) after that. The defending Class AAAAA state champion Raiders (12-6) will play the Cherokee schools in reverse order, also at Wheeler.

Pope, which closes out its home regular season schedule next Tuesday with a Senior Night trimatch against Kell and Rome, plays at a Milton trimatch tonight that also includes Hillgrove.

The Lady Greyhounds, ranked No. 1 in Class AAAA, are also coming off their fourth consecutive Cobb Invitational title.

The Walker School is having another outstanding volleyball season, although the Lady Wolverines (30-4) are coming off a loss to Harrison last weekend. They will compete in a tournament at Harrison on Saturday that includes Oconee County, Northview and Columbus.

Area play gets underway next week.
