Pope Wrestlers Dominate Again

The Greyhounds' win in the Region 5AAAA meet leads off the weekend roundup of high school sports.

The Pope Greyhounds look like an even stronger bet to defend their state wrestling championship than when the season started.

The Greyhounds easily claimed the Region 5AAAA meet for the fifth consecutive season at the Hound Pound on Friday and Saturday, and will be the favorite when the Class AAAA duals are held this weekend in Macon.

The Walton boys basketball team fell to 7-5 on the season with a 91-89 double overtime loss to Marietta on Friday. The Lady Raiders are only 2-10 on the season with a 72-29 loss to Marietta.

Both teams return to action Tuesday against Lassiter at Walton, with the girls starting at 6 p.m. and the boys tipping off at 7:30 p.m.

On Friday, the Wheeler boys downed Cherokee 70-57 to bring their record to 5-5. But the girls lost to the Lady Warriors by the same score as their record is now 5-7.

Wheeler plays host to Etowah on Tuesday.

The Pope boys basketball team is flying high, sporting a 13-2 record after Thursday's 62-44 win over Lassiter. The Pope girls, who are 7-6, also defeated Lassiter 44-34.

The Greyhounds play at home against North Paulding in a Region 5AAAA game.

I'll be there; rabbi Alper should be good (his You Tube videos are entertaining). CongratulationsRead More to Henry Hene and the Habitat coalition for doing such wonderful work and promoting "We Build to Coexist, We Coexist to Build." Congratulations to Addie and Harvey Schneider -- both are the definition of mensch.

Hurray for the "old school" which just means having a few manners. Ms. Smith alwaysRead More seems to present three facts after what seems to be extensive research. People can disagree without being rude or spouting half truths. I'm glad we still have some ethical and honest people in our midst.
