Pope Volleyball Marches On

The Lady Greyhounds have claimed their fifth consecutive Cobb County title during an 11-match winning streak.

Even with a younger roster this season, the Pope High School volleyball team continues to dominate in Cobb County and beyond. 

On Tuesday, the Lady Greyhounds, ranked No. 3 in the current Georgia Athletic Coaches Association Class AAAAA poll, extended their winning streak to 11 matches with tri-meet wins over Sprayberry and Sequoyah. 

Those matches came on the heels of another impressive showing at the Cobb County Invitational, which Pope won for the fifth consecutive year and is seeking a fourth straight state championship.

Since falling to Woodstock on Sept. 13, the Pope girls haven't even conceded a game during their winning streak, which how has them at 33-7 on the season. 

Coach Bryan Jones, who earlier this season won his 400th match with Pope, but his revamped roster to the test early, as the Lady Greyhounds lost three in a row to powerhouses Walton, Whitewater and Harrison.

Thursday's tri-meet at Pope includes a match against The Walker School, ranked No. 1 in Class A, at 5 p.m., followed by a match against Dalton at 7 p.m.
