Pope Primes for Playoff Return

The Greyhounds open their season against Marietta tonight seeking a third consecutive post-season appearance.

After earning its first playoff win in 11 seasons, the football team wants to reach a bit deeper into November.

But the Greyhounds, who open their season at home tonight against Marietta, will have to do that without the player who embodied their scrapiness the last two seasons.

Quarterback Holland Frost has graduated, but coach Matt Kemper has some seasoned returnees to help guide the way. The best-known is senior Brooks Climmons, a state champion wrestler who was Pope's leading rusher in 2011 with more than 600 yards.

Marietta is 0-1 after a 38-29 loss to Newnan last week.

Pope will be playing three consecutive Class AAAAAA teams to start the season, finally falling into action in Region 7B-AAAAA in October. The Greyhounds won't see region favorite Kell until their final regular season game on the road Nov. 2.
