Pope Jr. Baseball Tryouts Scheduled

And other youth sports of note in East Cobb and Northeast Cobb.

Pope Jr. Baseball will have open team tryouts to fill the last remaining roster spots next Thursday from 5:30-7 pm and from 7-8:30 pm.

The Jr. Greyhounds program is a high school developmental program that focuses on fundamentals, speed, agility and conditioning to prepare players for competition on senior level fields. Especially needed are pitchers, catcher and outfielder. 

Rising 7th & 8th graders in the Pope school district should register online at www.PopeJrGreyhounds.com at the tryouts page. A select number of out of district players will be considered for the team. The Jr. Greyhounds play on a 60/90 infield, and play home games at Pope High School baseball field. 
 
Alan NeSmith, founder and President of the North Georgia Feeder Baseball League (www.NorthGeorgiaFBL.com), will be returning as non-parent Head Coach after leading the charter 2011 team to a winning season and the FBL championship game, finishing 2nd place in the league. Lassiter Junior Football Scrimmages

It's a big weekend for the Lassiter Junior Trojan football program with a preseason game today starting at 6 p.m. at Sprayberry High School.

On Saturday, the North Metro Football League team scrimmages involving 4th-6th grade teams will take place all day at Lassiter. It's the final tune-up before next Saturday's season opener in the Georgia Middle School Athletic Association. 

East Cobb Bullets Tryouts Sunday

Five Under-16 teams playing in the East Cobb Fastpitch softball program qualified for American Softball Association summer tournament play.

The 18 Gold team that last year won the organization's first national championship of any kind finished in 17th place at the Premier Girls Faspitch nationals, a huge tournament in California featuring more than 170 teams.

In addition to that, the East Cobb Bullets have produced 28 playerswho graduated from high school this spring who are now freshmen at the collegiate level.

This Sunday, the Bullets are holding tryouts for younger age groups at Lassiter High School. The 12U tryouts begin at 1 p.m., followed by 14U tryouts at 4 p.m. All players, including returning players, must attend the tryouts in order to be placed on teams.
