Pope Hosts Whitewater in State Quarterfinals

Here's what's happening in high school athletics in East Cobb Patch on May 17.

The Pope baseball team is the No. 1 seed from Region 5-AAAA and has moved through the first two rounds of the GHSA 4A State Baseball Tournament handily, winning its four games by an average of four runs per game. Today, the Greyhounds will host the No. 2 seed from Region 3-AAAA, Whitewater, at .

It took Whitewater three games to dispatch Thomas County Central in the first round, and then upset Wayne County with a sweep to advance and play Pope.

Pope is one of the hottest 4A teams in the state right now, winning its last 14 games in a row, and 16 of its last 17. During the 14-game win streak, the Greyhounds have won by an average of five and a half runs per game.

The quarterfinals of the state baseball tournament are three-game series. If the teams split today, they will play again on Wednesday in the rubber match.
