Pope Finishes 2nd in Directors Cup

Each year the Regions Bank Directors Cup is given to the top performing high school athletic department in each classification.

The Regions Bank Directors Cup is presented by the Georgia Athletic Directors Association to recognize the top athletic departments in the Georgia High School Association. Points are accumulated throughout each school year to determine the best programs in the state by classification, gender and region.

Points are tallied from each school’s top eight scoring sports among the 25 sanctioned GHSA sports in which each school participates. Each school that wins will receive a Regions Directors Cup trophy and wall banner.

The AAAA top five is as follows:

  1. Marist – 1148.5
  2. Pope – 1066.5
  3. Chattahoochee – 928.0
  4. McIntosh – 850.5
  5. Starr’s Mill – 785.0

boys’ teams finished second overall with 572 points. The Greyhounds tallied 200 points after winning state titles in wrestling and tennis. The other 372 points came from track (75), baseball (70), swimming (66), cross country (63), soccer (53), and lacrosse (45).

The Lady Greyhounds finished third overall and accumulated 494.50 points this school year. The state championship in volleyball brought in 100 points while 394.50 points were spread between cross country (75), soccer (70), tennis (70), swimming (63), basketball (53), track (37), lacrosse (26.50) and softball (25).

The AAAAA top five is as follows:

  1. Brookwood – 1220.5
  2. Walton – 1058.5
  3. Mill Creek – 1039.0
  4. Harrison – 1010.5
  5. Lassiter – 996.5

The boys’ teams finished seventh overall with 471 points. The Raiders’ state championship in soccer brought 100 points to the school while 371 other points were shared by cross country (75), tennis (70), swimming (66), golf (54), lacrosse (50), wrestling (31), and baseball (25).

The Lady Raiders finished in second place overall with 587.50 points. Walton earned 300 points from three state championships; volleyball, cross country and tennis. The school split the remaining 287.50 points among soccer (83), golf (72), swimming (48), gymnastics (43) and lacrosse (41.50).

finished in 32nd place in the AAAAA classification with 384.3 points and the Walker School finished in 12th place in the A classification with 531 points.
