Notable by his absence was highly touted offensive guard Thomas O'Reilly, who graduated early and already is enrolled at BCS national champion Auburn.

Pope went 7-4 and qualified for the state playoffs for the first time in 10 years before losing in the first round to eventual Class AAAA state champion Chattahoochee.

The other Greyhounds who announced college choices Wednesday were running back/defensive back Garrett Brown, a three-sport star who received an appointment to the Air Force Academy; lineman Tyler Cummings, Rhodes College; running back/linebacker Landon Bonner, Charleston, W. Va. College; running back/linebacker Hank Strmac, Johns Hopkins; and lineman Courtland Garrett, Hutchinson C.C. in Kansas.
