Unlike Walton, Pope had to win Friday night to clinch the 5-AAAA title, a playoff spot and its first nine-win season. Mission accomplished.

The Greyhounds (9-1, 5-1 in the region) used big nights from quarterback Holland Frost (142 yards running, 103 yards passing, four total touchdowns) and running back Brooks Climmons (121 yards and two touchdowns on the ground) to romp to a 49-28 home win over , the MDJ reported.

Pope’s reward is a home game against Region 6-AAAA’s fourth-seeded team, 8-2 Mays, in the first round of the GHSA AAAA playoffs.

Teams in 6-AAAA don’t play anyone outside the region, so Pope and Mays have not played each other and have no common opponents this season. The Raiders beat Chamblee, 34-14, Thursday night to close their regular season.

Wins for Walton and Pope would keep them home for the second round of the playoffs. Pope would play the winner of Tri-Cities at Alcovy, while Walton would get the winner of Windsor Forest’s home game against the third-seeded team from Region 4-AAAAA. This afternoon’s game between and will determine that team. (Update: South Cobb won, 27-14, to earn the No. 3 seed and the spot against Windsor Forest.)

The Walker School isn't going to the playoffs, but the Wolverines closed out their season on a winning note with a 35-14 victory on Friday at Mt. Zion of Carrollton. Walker finishes with a record of 3-7.
