Lassiter Wins Football Region Title

Also advancing to the post-season are Walton and Kell.

The Lassiter Trojans are one of three teams from East Cobb to reach the Georgia High School Association state football playoffs that begin next week.

By virtue of their 37-20 win over Etowah on Friday, the Trojans also won the Region 5-AAAAAA title. Will Anderson threw for nearly 300 yards and three touchdowns for Lassiter, which outscored Etowah 28-14 in the second half (MDJ story here).

Lassiter, which is 7-3 and 6-1, will be playing at home next week, against Peachtree Ridge, in the first round of the playoffs.

Lassiter's East Cobb and region rival Walton also wrapped up a playoff bid by defeating Roswell 33-14. The Raiders (6-4, 5-2), who trailed at halftime, open the playoffs next week at Collins Hill.

The Kell Longhorns nailed down the top playoff seed from Region 7-AAAAA in an easy 49-6 win over Cambridge.

Kell, which is 10-0, will play host to Cobb rival Allatoona next week in the first round.

In perhaps the most exciting game of the night, Wheeler salvaged something positive from what has been a trying season.

The Wildcats trailed Cherokee 20-0 at halftime, then roared back for a 30-20 win at home to end the season on a high note.

Wheeler was 3-7 this year, and lost star quarterback Elijah Staley in mid-season, when he was dismissed from the team by coach Mike Collins.

Pope also was 3-7 this season, and concluded with a 53-21 loss at Sequoyah Friday night.

Sprayberry's season ended with a 35-13 loss to Creekview. The Yellow Jackets were 2-8.
