The Lassiter Trojans are one of three teams from East Cobb to reach the Georgia High School Association state football playoffs that begin next week.
By virtue of their 37-20 win over Etowah on Friday, the Trojans also won the Region 5-AAAAAA title. Will Anderson threw for nearly 300 yards and three touchdowns for Lassiter, which outscored Etowah 28-14 in the second half (MDJ story here).
Lassiter, which is 7-3 and 6-1, will be playing at home next week, against Peachtree Ridge, in the first round of the playoffs.
Lassiter's East Cobb and region rival Walton also wrapped up a playoff bid by defeating Roswell 33-14. The Raiders (6-4, 5-2), who trailed at halftime, open the playoffs next week at Collins Hill.
The Kell Longhorns nailed down the top playoff seed from Region 7-AAAAA in an easy 49-6 win over Cambridge.
Kell, which is 10-0, will play host to Cobb rival Allatoona next week in the first round.
In perhaps the most exciting game of the night, Wheeler salvaged something positive from what has been a trying season.
The Wildcats trailed Cherokee 20-0 at halftime, then roared back for a 30-20 win at home to end the season on a high note.
Wheeler was 3-7 this year, and lost star quarterback Elijah Staley in mid-season, when he was dismissed from the team by coach Mike Collins.
Pope also was 3-7 this season, and concluded with a 53-21 loss at Sequoyah Friday night.
Sprayberry's season ended with a 35-13 loss to Creekview. The Yellow Jackets were 2-8.
