Lassiter Football Field Vandalized Before Playoff Game

Cobb school officials say most of the damage has already been cleaned up.

Thanks to the folks at the Northampton subdivision in Northeast Cobb for the photos of a vandalized Lassiter High School football field.

Lassiter plays host tonight to Peachtree Ridge of Gwinnett County in the first round of the Georgia High School Association playoffs.

The markings make it look like the work of someone who's at, the very least, a fan of the Trojans' opponent, with huge spray paint scrawlings of "P R" on the field, a set of doors and on a wall.

A spray-painted message inside the Trojans' logo on the field says "Lions," which is the Peachtree Ridge team nickname.

A wall along the Frank Fillman Field complex bears another spray-painted message: "U Ain't Ready."

Doug Goodwin, a spokesman for the Cobb County School District, said the damage is "90 percent cleaned up" and that maintenance crews were out early this morning to remove the spray paint.

Kickoff between Lassiter and Peachtree Ridge is at 7:30 p.m., and the game is being shown live on Georgia Public Television.

Lassiter is one of three East Cobb teams in action tonight, along with Walton and Kell.
