Lassiter Athletes Sign College Grants

Trojan swimming, softball and lacrosse stars signed scholarship offers from Stanford, Virginia, UConn, Mercer and Troy.

Five Lassiter High School senior student athletes recently signed national letters of intent with Stanford University, the University of Virginia, the University of Connecticut, Troy University and Mercer University.

The majority of the signees committed to swimming at their future schools. Jimmie Yoder, considered one of the best swimmers in the state, will be swimming for Stanford next fall. Yoder, with a stellar GPA, numerous state titles, two-time USA National Junior Team member and Olympic qualifier in four events was a prime candidate for one of the top academic schools in the nation.

Jordan Drake, a three-time All-American, All-State and All-County swimmer specializes in 200 IM, 100 breast stroke, and 100 free style making her a great addition to the University of Connecticut. Zachary Bunner, also an All-American, All-State and All-County swimmer, holds the 2012 GHSA 200 IM title, three school records, and two Cobb County records proving he will excel in Virginia.

2012 GHSA 5AAAAAA Fastpitch Player of the Year Mackenzie Kayler will be playing at Troy University in 2013. The four-year letterman pitched her team to two region championships and 4th and 5th in the state.

Lacrosse goalie Ryan Smith will be the one Trojan in the current group to stay in Georgia with his commitment to Mercer University. The US All-American, All-State and Under Armour® All-American was a huge part in getting his team to 2nd place in state in 2012.

Lassiter Athletic Director Art O’Neil commented, “We could not be more proud of the accomplishments of our student athletes. These five students highlight exactly what we try to promote in Lassiter athletics, top performance on and off the field (or pool) and dedication to your craft.”

There will be several more signing days at Lassiter this week and later in the school year, including the much anticipated signing of Missouri-commit quarterback Eddie Printz.

I'll be there; rabbi Alper should be good (his You Tube videos are entertaining). CongratulationsRead More to Henry Hene and the Habitat coalition for doing such wonderful work and promoting "We Build to Coexist, We Coexist to Build." Congratulations to Addie and Harvey Schneider -- both are the definition of mensch.

Hurray for the "old school" which just means having a few manners. Ms. Smith alwaysRead More seems to present three facts after what seems to be extensive research. People can disagree without being rude or spouting half truths. I'm glad we still have some ethical and honest people in our midst.
