Cobb Football League Registration Underway

And other East Cobb youth sports news and notes.

The Cobb Football League, which opens play this fall, is continuing registration through July 22. 

The CFL is a feeder program serving most Cobb high school districts -- including Kell, Pope, Walton and Wheeler -- with competition for boys ages 5-11. 

Practices and a draft will take place in late July, with the games beginning on Aug. 27.

There also is a cheerleading component to the CFL for girls, also age 5-11, with registration closing on July 6. 

The cost for football or cheerleading is $265 per child for the season.

Former Kell High School football standout Jonathan Dwyer's local camp for ages 5-18 takes place next week.

The camp dates at Kell are Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Dwyer, who was the ACC player of the year in 2008 for Georgia Tech, just completed his rookie NFL season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. There will be Tech and NFL players on hand Saturday for photos and autographs. 

The cost is $125 per child for all three days, with lunch, drinks and T-shirts provided by the camp. To register, click here

The East Cobb-based North Atlanta Soccer Association has placed another standout in a U.S. youth national team camp.  

Central midfielder Emily Sonnett, who competes in NASA's G12 Elite II division, is currently training with the U.S. Under-18 women's program in Chula Vista, Calif. The team will play the Japanese Under-20 side on Monday. 

Sonnett, who with her twin sister Emma will be a senior at Fellowship Christian in Roswell, has committed to play college soccer at Virginia.

The Georgia Tech Summer Lacrosse Camp has openings for the girls camp that takes place from June 23-26. 

The camp is open to girls 8-18, with overnight and day camp options. The cost for the overnight camp is $465 per child, with the day camp fees $385.
