A New Field for Wheeler Football

The Corky Kell family cuts the ribbon as the Wildcats played their season opener on new turf Friday night.

The football home of the Wheeler Wildcats is named after Corky Kell, and on Friday his family was given the honor of christening a brand new field turf playing surface.

Carole Kell, his widow, cut the ribbons with Cobb school dignitaries, including Superintendent Michael Hinojosa and East Cobb school board members Scott Sweeney and David Banks in attendance.

Kell's son Tain, a former Wheeler football player and now a Cobb Superior Court Judge, also was included in the ceremony.
