Small Business Saturday at the Book Exchange

Authors Romily Bernard, Lynn Cullen and Ann Hite will be visiting the Canton Road bookshop.

Cathy Blanco sends along this information about the Book Exchange, her Canton Road bookshop, which will include visits from local authors on Small Business Saturday:

Book Exchange has planned special events for shoppers on Small Business Saturday, November 30th, a day that highlights the importance of community support for local businesses. Customers who visit the Canton Road independent bookstore will find music provided by a live band, personal appearances by three local writers, and a new selection of clever and sassy gift items.

Responding to publishers’ encouragement for authors to demonstrate their appreciation and support for Indie Bookstores on Small Business Saturday, three acclaimed Southern writers – Romily Bernard, Lynn Cullen and Ann Hite -- will be on hand to chat with Book Exchange customers.

Author Romily Bernard will kick off the day by appearing at 11:30 a.m. She will hand-sell and autograph Find Me, her debut YA novel. Find Me won a 2012 Golden Heart Award and placed first in the 2011 GA Romance Writers’ Unpublished Maggie Awards.

Bernard will be joined by Purely Acoustic, an award-winning band who will give a live performance. Composed of sisters Tabitha, Erin and Hannah Fleenor, the NW Georgia band was winner of the 2013 Atlanta Fest talent search. Purely Acoustic’s music contains elements of Bluegrass, Folk, Contemporary and Americana, and Book Exchange will have the Purely Acoustic CD available for purchase.

Writers Lynn Cullen and Ann Hite will be at Book Exchange from 2:00 p.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon, hand-selling and autographing their books and talking with customers.

Lynn Cullen’s Mrs. Poe is a fictitious but historically based tale of the doomed romance of Edgar Allan Poe, his wife, and his lover. The novel was highlighted in Atlanta Magazine and People Magazine, reviewed and named “Book of the Week” on Oprah.com, and featured in the NY Times Sunday Book Review.

Ann Hite was one of ten finalists for the Townsend Prize for Fiction in 2012 and she won the 2012 Georgia Author of the Year award for Best First Novel for Ghost on Black Mountain. Her 2013 release, haint-filled The Storycatcher, is once again set on Black Mountain, with a foray to the southern coast. The book has garnered strong reviews from Publishers Weekly, Atlanta Magazine, and the Library Journal.
