Wheeler a 'No Place for Hate' School

The East Cobb high school becomes the first in Cobb County to earn the designation, which will be marked by a May 3 observance.

To celebrate, school officials announced on Tuesday that Wheeler will hold an event on May 3 to mark the designation. 

Staff, student, diversity and Wheeler PTSA programs qualified Wheeler for the award, which has gone to more than 160 schools in the Southeast. The ADL also nominated Wheeler for the "Highlight Nice" Award by Atlanta radio station V-103, which will be part of the May 3 festivities beginning at 10 a.m. at the Doug Lipscomb Gym.

The ADL's "No Place for Hate" program encourages students to be proactive in minimizing racial and ethnic name-calling, epithets, bias and bullying. The program also provides guidelines for holiday observances that respect the diversity of cultural and religious traditions in schools.
