Walton, Wheeler Projects on School Agenda

A recommendation for funding architectural and design plans will be taken up Wednesday.

Architectural and design contracts for major reconstruction projects at two East Cobb high schools are on the Cobb Board of Education agenda Wednesday. 

The business meeting will take place following an executive session that begins at 8:30 a.m. The public portion the meeting will be held in the board room of the Cobb County School District central office, 514 Glover Street, Marietta. 

One of the action items is a request to award a $1.4 million contract to Cobb-based Chapman Griffin Lanier Sussenbach Architects, Inc., to begin architectural design work on the replacing the main classroom building and gymnasium at Walton High School.

The $40 million Walton project was part of the recent Cobb Education SPLOST IV referendum passed by Cobb voters in March.  

Also on that project list was $17.7 million for a new auditorium and gymnasium at Wheeler High School.

On Wednesday, the board also will be asked to approve an architectural design contract totaling $855,277 for Croft and Associates of Kennesaw. 

The auditorium/gymnasium project, also part of SPLOST IV, is separate from the ongoing reconstruction of the main Wheeler classroom building.
