Walton, Walker Earn Shuler Nods

Student productions of "Anything Goes" and "Xanadu" are nominated for the Georgia high school Tonys.

Anything Goes and the Xanadu are among the high school musical productions recognized in Monday’s nominations for the annual Shuler Hensley Awards.

Anything Goes, , is nominated for costume design, choreography, supporting actor (Sam Barge as Lord Evelyn Oakleigh) and leading actress (Angie Zhang as Reno Sweeney). It also received honorable mention for music direction, direction and overall production.

The show features the music of Cole Porter and is set on a madcap cruise ship. You can see photos from the show here.

Xanadu, which had its run in February, is nominated for costume design, light design and orchestra. It also received honorable mention for technical execution.

Xanadu was a flop as an Olivia Newton John movie in the 1980s, but this production made a believer of blogger W. Scott Smoot, for one. You can see show photos here.

The Shuler Hensley Awards, named for the Tony-winning Broadway performer from Marietta, are the Tony Awards for high school musical theater in Georgia. The Cobb Energy Centre Foundation supports the awards through its ArtsBridge education program.

The awards show will be April 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the . Tickets are $13.
