Walton Grad Earns Huntingdon Degree

Megan Petenbrink, a member of Mt. Bethel UMC, will enter Emory University's theology program in the fall.

East Cobb resident Megan Petenbrink has earned her undergraduate degree, but her education is only continuing. 

Petenbrink, a 2008 graduate of , recently received a bachelor of arts degree in religion from Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Ala,., graduating magna cum laude. 

Petenbrink, a member of East Cobb's , was a member of the Huntingdon Concert Choir and served as vocalist for the EMERGE worship team. Huntingdon is a Methodist-affiliated undergraduate college of around 1,200 students.

An active member of Huntingdon's Campus Ministries, she also served on the Residence Life staff as a resident assistant for two years. She was a member of the Huntingdon Environmental Club. Through the Huntingdon Plan, rooted in "faith, wisdom and service," she traveled and studied in Greece and Turkey in 2011.

For her academic achievement, she was inducted into Theta Alpha Kappa honor society for religion, Sigma Sigma Sigma honor society for scholarship, spirit, and service, Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honorary, and Alpha Beta senior academic honor society.

She was recognized on the Dean's List of High Honors. Petenbrink was the 2012 recipient of the Department of Religion's Lessie Mae Hall Stone Religion and Philosophy Award, given annually to the student who has earned the highest academic grade point average in the department.

Petenbrink, the daughter of Nancy and Barry Petenbrink, was named to Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities. She received acceptance to seminary at Yale, Duke, and Emory Universities and will attend Emory's Candler School of Theology beginning this fall.
