Walton Alum Quits Student Presidency

Ross Kressel survived an impeachment bid but resigned his post at the College of Charleston.

grad Ross Kressel resigned as the student government president at the College of Charleston on Tuesday, seven weeks after he survived an impeachment vote.

“Thank you for challenging me, supporting me, and joining me in an effort to make the College a better place,” Kressel tweeted Tuesday night.

It was his Twitter account (@RossKressel) that . He used the account to make comments that offended women, blacks, gays and student government colleagues.

Although the Student Government Association fell short of impeaching Kressel on Sept. 13, it did pass a no-confidence resolution on a 25-4 vote, the Charleston Post and Courier reported.

Kressel, 21, a senior political science major from East Cobb, had no comment about quitting when contacted by the Post and Courier on Tuesday. He gave up a position that paid him nearly $10,000 a year.

The student government said Kressel submitted his resignation Tuesday and endorsed his vice president, Elliott Wright, as his successor. Wright was named the new president.

“Ross has given many years of service to the SGA, the college and the student body,” Matthew Vaveris, a senior student senator, said on behalf of the Student Government Association on its blog. “His passion for the Student Government Association was evident in his constant presence and hard work on behalf of the students.”
