Sope Creek ES to Celebrate Art Day

Students have been preparing all week for Friday's theme, "The Old Masters."

Many thanks to Julia Curran of the Sope Creek Elementary School PTA for getting out the word about Art Day on Friday, culminating a week of preparations and celebrations and a nice segue into spring break:

Painters, comedians, puppeteers, dancers and magicians are some of the fun components of Sope Creek Elementary School’s annual Art Day being held this Friday, April 5.

The theme of the event, “The Old Masters” will introduce students to the works of the Renaissance and provide a deeper understanding of the great works and artists of the past.  A unique and special event, Art Day includes participation by all members of the school community -- students, teachers, staff and volunteers.

The school will be transformed into a “Museum at the Creek,” -- the halls will be lined with works from painters and sculptors of the Renaissance.

Students are contributing to the visual event by each creating their own 'Sistine Chapel' work of art. Each student created an individual canvas on paper plates which will be combined and hung overhead to create Sope Creek’s own Sistine Chapel.

A special Mona Lisa cut out will act as a photo booth for students getting their pictures taken.

Over 20 performers will present during the day including; Anne Rohr of Annamime Productions, Comedian's 'Laughing Matters', Artist,  Cheryl Myrob, Puppeteer, Peter Hart along with break-dancers, magicians, painters, dancers, martial artists, mimes, and more!

Students will also have a special in-class art project. Kindergarten - 2nd graders will be learning about Leonardo DaVinci and creating their own Mona Lisa. Third through fifth graders will have a lesson on Michelangelo, creating soap sculptures to get an understanding of the art of sculpture.

Each day morning announcements will include art trivia to get the students excited about the final Art Day on Friday.

The week of arts celebration will end on Friday with a "Parade of Performers” featuring Sope Creek teachers and staff.
