Sope Creek ES Project on Agenda

The Cobb school board will discuss easement and right-of-way matters at Wednesday morning's work session.

The will discuss a number of school construction-related items at Wednesday morning's work session, including those pertaining to road work near East Cobb's . 

The work session begins at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Cobb County School District headquarters, 514 Glover Street, Marietta. 

Before the board are two recommendations for work near Sope Creek Elementary, located at 3320 Paper Mill Road. One is for approval of an inter-local agreement, a right-of-way and a temporary construction easement with the Cobb Department of Transportation, while the other grants easements to Georgia Power.

The traffic improvements (see attached PDF map) are related to a $3.8 million renovation project underway at Sope Creek since last fall and that will include 12 new classrooms, upgrades to the front office and kitchen areas and other maintenance work in time for the start of the 2012-13 school year. 

The Sope Creek items are included with several Cobb school PLOST-related matters on Wednesday's agenda (attached PDF), which also will feature discussion on the recent Teach for America controversy.

The Marietta Daily Journal reported Tuesday that the board will take up that issue, as well as delayed action on school charter issues.
