Not only were the Pope Greyhounds the No. 1 seed in the Region 5-AAAA basketball tournament, but they hosted the top half of the quarterfinal bracket on Wednesday, beating East Paulding 70-49.

Matt Polyne led all scorers with 20 points and Garrett Brown added 19.

With the win Pope qualifies for the state tournament which begins next week. On Friday, the Greyhounds will play Chapel Hill at Kell High School in the semifinals. The game will tip of at 8:30 p.m.
