Thumbs Up for East Cobb High Schools

Atlanta Magazine rates Pope, Walton and Wheeler highly among the best public high schools in the metro area.

East Cobb high schools are considered among the best in a recent Atlanta Magazine survey of public education in the metro Atlanta area. 

In the January cover story entitled "The 50 Best Public High Schools," came in at No. 2, with  6th.  was rated No. 19 in the survey, which includes 10 Cobb high schools

Northeast Cobb schools Lassiter, Sprayberry and Kell also rated highly in the magazine's survey.

The full rankings, based on nine indicators, are behind a non-subscription pay wall. North Fulton and Gwinnett schools also scored high. Here's how East Cobb schools were rated, according to data from the 2009--2010 shool year the magazine compiled from the Governor's Office of Student Achievement

-- Average SAT scores: Walton 3rd; Wheeler 6th; Pope 7th.

-- Ga. High School Grad Test/Math: Pope and Walton, tie 5.5th; Wheeler, tie 45th.

-- Ga. High School Grad Test/Language Arts: Pope and Walton, tie 8th; Wheeler, tie 40.5th.

-- Graduation Rate: Walton 4th; Pope, tie 14.5th; Wheeler 48th.

-- Advanced Placement Exams: Walton 1st; Pope 14th; Wheeler 20th.

-- AP Passing Rate: Wheeler 9th; Walton, tie 14.5th; Pope, tie 16.5th. 

-- Learning Support: Walton 1st; Pope 3rd; Wheeler 9th.

-- HOPE Eligibility: Walton 5th; Pope 7th; Wheeler 23rd.

-- College Prep Diploma: Walton, tie 20.5th; Pope, tie 42.5th; Wheeler, tie 63.5th.
