How Would You Rate Hinojosa's Tenure in Cobb?

Cobb Board of Education voted Wednesday to accept the superintendent's resignation.

The Cobb Board of Education voted to accept Superintendent Michael Hinojosa’s resignation on Wednesday, permitting him to exit out of his contract seven months early.

Hinojosa shocked the school board earlier in the month by announcing that he would be stepping down at the end of May.

Hinojosa, who had previously been superintendent for the Dallas Independent School District, had his contract extended last year by the school board until the end of 2014. His last day on the job now will be May 31.

Hinojosa, who was named superintendent of the state’s second largest school district in June 2011, said he intends to return to his home in Dallas, Texas where he could be with his family, which includes his wife and his 91-year-old mother.

He will reportedly take a position with a Chicago-based education consulting firm that will permit him to work from Dallas.

Hinojosa arrived in Cobb at a fractious time, following the retirement of former Superintendent Fred Sanderson and with substantial turnover on the school board.

But now the school board will be searching for his replacement. It is unclear which steps the board will take to do such.
