East Cobb Teacher Promotes 'Dream Art'

Judith Condon of Hightower Trail Middle School is involved in a civil rights-related contest for K-12 students.

What does Judith Condon have in common with Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and civil rights legend Dr. Joseph Lowery?

The arts specialist at East Cobb's is among those speaking in this video about The Dream Art Contest: Visions of the Civil Rights Movement and America Today, which is aimed at fostering an appreciation for the relevance of history and to demonstrate the importance of the arts.

"Art is about showing who you are," Condon says on the video, which also is posted on the Cobb County School District website. "It's about not being afraid of being yourself."

Metro Atlanta area students have until Nov. 18 to submit their contest entries, which can be portraits of famous civil rights figures or depictions of a key moment in the movement's history or another rendering about the legacy of civil rights.

The winners will be announced during Black History Month in February.
