Thanks to Sophie Singer. on behalf of the Georgia Center for Civic Engagement, (a program of the State YMCA of Georgia) for sending along this news and photos:

Jim Morris, Cobb County teacher at Mt. Bethel Elementary School, has been awarded the prestigious Elementary Civic Educator of the Year Award by the Georgia Center for Civic Engagement. The award was presented to Jim by Governor Nathan Deal at the State Capitol on Oct. 24, 2013.

These educators have demonstrated a special expertise in teaching about citizenship, the U.S. Constitution, Georgia Studies, Congress, and/or public policy at the state and local level. They use experiential learning techniques to engage their students in Social Studies content, teach civic education for democratic participation in society whether or not it is in separate civics or government classes and actively encourage students to find and use their voice to effect change in their school and community.
