East Cobb School Administrator to Retire

Ed Thayer, who oversees operations in the Kell, Lassiter and Sprayberry districts, is stepping down in August.

The Cobb County School District's assistant superintendent for part of the East Cobb area is retiring right before the start of the 2013-14 school year.

The Cobb Board of Education on Wednesday approved the retirement request of Ed Thayer, who coordinates school operations in Area 4, which includes the Kell, Lassiter and Sprayberry high school districts and 17 feeder schools.

He will leave the district Aug. 1 after 37 years in education, including 21 in Cobb schools, according to The Marietta Daily Journal, which reported that his position may not be filled to save money.

The CCSD currently has six area superintendents who report to Cheryl Hungerford, the deputy superintendent for leadership and learning.

Area 4 includes Daniell, Mabry, McCleskey, Palmer and Simpson middle schools and the following elementary schools: Addison, Bells Ferry, Blackwell, Chalker, Davis, Garrison Mill, Keheley, Kincaid, Mountain View, Nicholson, Pitner, Rocky Mount.

During his career in Cobb, he was a physical education teacher and baseball coach at Pope High School.

The MDJ report said that his salary is $110,842.

CongratulationsRead More to Henry Hene and the Habitat coalition for doing such wonderful work and promoting "We Build to Coexist, We Coexist to Build." Hurray for the "old school" which just means having a few manners. Ms. Smith alwaysRead More seems to present three facts after what seems to be extensive research. People can disagree without being rude or spouting half truths. I'm glad we still have some ethical and honest people in our midst.
