Cobb Students Earn College Degrees

A number of other students also earned academic honors for the spring.

The following students from the East Cobb and Marietta areas recently received college degrees:

  • Georgia Southwestern: Christina Drabek, B.S., sociology;
  • Gardner-Webb: Matthew Parker, B.S., economics/finance;
  • Piedmont: Tate A. Koons, B.A., business administration with honors; Leslie Morgan Moore, M.A., secondary history education;
  • Georgia College: Erin Antonilez, B.S., health education; Brianne Barber, B.S., nursing; Vanessa Charles, B.S., nursing; David Cox, B.A., mass communication; Nicole Lekas, B.B.A., marketing; David Lurie, B.B.A., management; Natalie Mason, B.S., early childhood education; Meredith Meaders, M.A.T., secondary teacher education; Marianna Rossi, B.S., special education; Lauren Whiffen, B.S., secondary education.
  • Champlain College: Miranda Foggie, M.S., law;
  • Valdosta State: Shambree Nicole Wartel, B.A., English; Mary Elizabeth Sheeley, M.A., special education;
  • University of Vermont: Chandler B. Myers, B.A., Japanese; Rachel V. Weiland, B.S., communication science and disorders;
  • Wayne State: Jason Pittenger, M.S., civil engineering.

The following students from the Marietta/East Cobb area were recognized for academic achievement:

  • Quinn Marcus, a interdisciplinary studies major at Emerson College in Boston, received the Rose Oral Interpretation Award from the Communications Studies Department. The awards were granted to students for academic excellence and outstanding contributions to the department;
  • Melodie Kimble was named to the Spring 2013 Dean's List list at Georgia Southwestern, which is given to students with a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher;
  • Julie Lynn Sliwinski and Bryce Jamison Wells have been named to the spring honor roll at Gardner-Webb, with GPAs betweeen 3.2 and 3.7 for the semester;
  • Tyra Laster was named to the spring Dean's List at Tennessee State, where she is majoring in communication; 
  • Kelsey Taylor was named to the Dean's List at Harding University;
  • John Kimbrough has been named to the Dean's List at Carson-Newman University;
  • Jessica Haswell, a theatre major, has earned Dean's List recognition at the University of Evansville;
  • The following Marietta-area students were named to the spring Dean's List at Georgia College: Daniel Beldin, Austin Card,Vanessa Charles, Erin Churchill, Azaria Hogans, Samantha Jones, Leah Kelm, Devyn Pondiscio, Jess Rigby, Marianna Rossi, Mackalie Davidson, Stephanie Dudek, Mary Fitzgerald, Natalie Mason, Ansley Orgeron, Lauren Whiffen, Lucy Williams;
  • The following Marietta-area students were named to the spring Dean's List at Valdosta State: Rodney Francis Kazibwe, Katelyn Grace McCalley,  Courtney Ciera McMiller, Shambree Nicole Wartel,  Katelyn Elizabeth Werbke, Megan Elizabeth York;
  • Zachary Sanders was awarded with Gold Star honors -- for a GPA of 3.7 or higher -- at The Citadel, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration;
  • Katherine Gaster of East Cobb was inducted into the national mathematics honor society, Pi Mu Epsilon and is a recent graduate of Wofford College;
  • Matthew Bryan of the University of Dallas presented his "senior novel" project on Robert Penn Warren's "All the King's Men."
