Cobb Community Honors Teachers

Tuesday's "Give Our Schools a Hand" rally was the silver anniversary of the event.

As the current school year began, two East Cobb teachers were finalists for Cobb Teacher of the Year: Cathy Zingler of Lassiter High School and Tracie Bucy of Rocky Mount Elementary School. East Cobb Patch covered those announcements at the schools.

Earlier this week, they were among the teachers honored by the Cobb County School District, the Cobb Chamber of Commerce and others in the Cobb community. Tuesday's "Give Our Schools a Hand" rally at Roswell Street Baptist Church was the 25th anniversary of the event.

Past Cobb County Teachers of the Year from 1988-2012 helped begin the 25th anniversary 'Give Our Schools A Hand' celebration Oct. 2 at Marietta Square. The District joined the Cobb Chamber of Commerce in the silver celebration of educators in our community as 2013-2014 honoree Rhonda Lokey (Campbell Middle School) unveiled her handprint on the Teacher Walk of Fame.

The fun continued throughout October, culminating with the community pep rally Oct. 29. Students, staff and community supporters packed Roswell Street Baptist Church, cheering and waving colorful signs for their celebrity teachers.
