CCSD Official Steps Down Minutes After Ragsdale Announcement

The Cobb County School District appears to have found its interim superintendent with the naming of deputy superintendent Chris Ragsdale as its sole finalist, but it will now need to find twice as many deputy superintendents in the coming months.

Less than an hour after Ragsdale was announced for the position of replacing the retiring Dr. Michael Hinojosa on Thursday morning, the district's deputy superintendent of leadership and learning announced that she would be leaving the state’s second-largest school system next month.

As The Marietta Daily Journal reports, Cheryl Hungerford notified the district via an email to each of the school systems principals.

“There is a season for everything and a time for every purpose under the heaven,” Hungerford said in the email. “And now is the season for me to devote more time to my family and friends.”

While Hungerford was one of seven finalists for the position that Ragsdale was tapped for by the board, she said that her resignation had nothing to do with being bypassed. Instead, the 34-plus year district employee said was retiring in late May in order to spend more time with family.
