Banks Objects to School Board Map

East Cobb's representative for the Pope High School district is upset that the new Post 5 seat would extend into western Cobb.

Every 10 years, after the decennial Census, all legislative and school board districts are reapportioned to bring about the Constitutional requirement of equal representation. The Cobb County School District has grown considerably over the past ten years and to meet proportional representation the school board post boundaries have to be redrawn.

Last week, school board members received a proposed Cobb County School Board Post Reapportionment map drawn by State Representatives Ed Setzler and Rich Golick that has been promoted by Rep. Matt Dollar. The map outlines their view of how the new school board post boundaries should be configured.

Under the proposed map, David Banks' Post 5, which covers ,  and   high schools, has been drastically reconfigured and would extend into the south central and west portion of the county, all the way to Cheatham Hills. Post 5 would include the Dobbins and Fair Oaks precincts, which encompasses some of the  and  community.

Post 4 would be reconfigured to include the entire area north of Shallowford Road to the Cobb and Fulton county line and northward of Sandy Plains Road just west of Ebenezer Road. The following Northeast Cobb schools would be removed from Post 5 and represented by Kathleen Angelucci of Post 4 ( and  high schools):

A school board member living in the West Cobb or the Smyrna/Vinings area, according to Banks, could represent posts 4, 5 and 6, which have been traditionally East Cobb posts.

State Representatives John Carson, Don Parsons, and Matt Dollar, and Senators Judson Hill and Chip Rogers represent the districts within the current school board Post 5. Under the proposed map, Rep. Carson's district would no longer reside within Post 5 boundaries.

"I strongly urge you to give this proposed map and its configuration very careful consideration and to contact your Representative and Senator and let them know your thoughts," said Banks.
