A Ribbon-Cutting Celebration at Wheeler

Momentoes from the past were saved as the community got its first look at the new school building Tuesday.

The new Wheeler High School building opened its doors to students on Aug. 7 (East Cobb Patch coverage here).

On Tuesday, the entire Wheeler school community was invited to take part in an official celebration, along with assorted dignitaries, representatives of the Cobb County School District and present and former Wheeler staff.

Right before the official christening, former Wheeler principal Terry Poor, retired Cobb school superintendent (and former Wheeler teacher) Fred Sanderson and current principal David Chiprany unwrapped symbols of the original school building, which was completed in 1965.

The letters W-H-S were preserved, along with a piece of the old gym floor that can be seen in the lobby of the new building.

Community members then toured the building as a Wheeler student string quartet played nearby.
