Sope Creek Bridge Project Update

Signal timing changes have been made at three key intersections to ease traffic delays.

District 2 Cobb Commissioner Bob Ott released the following update on Friday regarding the closure of Paper Mill Road at the Sope Creek Bridge:

Cobb County officials have worked to minimize the impact of the bridge replacement at Paper Mill Road over Sope Creek. We understand how painful this traffic change is for the area, but replacing the old bridge has become critical. Construction began after the end of the school year in order to reduce the amount of traffic that has to be rerouted. The construction is scheduled to be completed by Oct. 25, but there are financial incentives for the contractor to finish early. To expedite this, the Board of Commissioners has approved extended work hours that run until 11 p.m.

We are doing everything to help drivers make it through this temporary transition. The Cobb Department of Transportation has adjusted signal timing at the following intersections to ease delays, Indian Hills Parkway at Lower Roswell Road, Johnson Ferry Road at Lower Roswell Road and Paper Mill Road at Terrell Mill Road. Technicians are visiting these intersections weekly to fine tune their adjustments as traffic patterns shift. We thank you for your patience and will continue to work to alleviate delays.
