Sope Creek Bridge Closed Until Oct. 25

Paper Mill Road detours will be in effect as the replacement project is underway.

Starting Tuesday, East Cobb motorists will not be able to use Paper Mill Road near the Sope Creek Bridge for the next four months.

The bridge will undergo a replacement project that will continue through the start of the 2013-14 school year.

The $1.4 million project will include a complete replacement of the aging bridge and the construction of a six-foot-wide sidewalk on the south side of Paper Mill Road for access to National Park Service trails.

At a town hall meeting in East Cobb this month, District 2 Cobb Commissioner Bob Ott told citizens the bridge replacement work would continue each day until 11 p.m. He said it's part of a "cost plus" contract, an incentive to complete the project as soon as possible.

Here's a summary of other road work going on in East Cobb this week, provided by Ott's office:

  • Indian Hills Parkway (Eastside Elementary School): Improvements consist of adding a right turn lane and a u-turn lane on Indian Hills Parkway to improve traffic and pedestrian safety. Contractor plans to begin work, Monday, June 3.

Lower Roswell Road Construction

  • Davidson Road to Willow Point Parkway – Tuesday, May 28, through Friday, May 31: This section of Lower Roswell Road is substantially complete except for final striping.
  • Willow Point Pkwy to Timber Ridge Road – Tuesday through Friday: Expect periodic lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. between Willow Point Parkway and Timber Ridge Road with one lane remaining open for your commute.
