East Cobb Election Guide

Here are the candidates and issues that will be affecting East Cobb in this year's elections.

As we look ahead to this year's elections, East Cobb Patch is devoted to bringing you the information you need about local races. Here are a few of the candidates and issues we'll be covering over the next several months.

Transportation Investment Act, or TSPLOST: The upcoming TSPLOST regional transportation referendum is one of the most pressing issues in the upcoming vote. Cobb Commission chairman Tim Lee has also participated and on the issue. Learn more about TSPLOST and what others in the community are saying about it here.

House Resolution 1162: Voters will decide if the state can override local school boards' decisions on rejection of charter schools.

District 6 U.S. House of Representative: Congressman Tom Price (R) faces a redrawn district but will retain his Northeast Cobb constituency. He is unopposed in the July 31 GOP primary but will have Democratic opposition in what remains an overwhelmingly Republican district.

Georgia House of Representatives: Republican incumbents Don Parsons, John Carson and Matt Dollar  in redrawn and renamed districts, but which still are largely based in East and Northeast Cobb. will have a Democratic general election candidate.

Post 5, Cobb Board of Education: Incumbent David Banks, a major figure in the 2011 school calendar controvsery, in the Republican primary. The seat was redrawn to take in some of the area around Wheeler High School but still contains most of the Pope, Lassiter and Sprayberry districts. No Democrat qualified to run. 

Cobb County Commission Chairman: Incumbent County Commission Chairman Tim Lee has three challengers after his seat: Mike Boyce, Bill Byrne and Larry Savage. They  in East Cobb. There is no Democratic candidate on the November ballot.

GOP Presidential Nominee Mitt Romney: The former Massachusetts governor, who survived a lengthy Republican primary race to emerge as the party's presidential hopeful, appears to have a good chance at pulling off the victory—at least that's what it seems like living in Georgia.

One of Romney's most visible local supporters is East Cobb resident and former Cobb Commission chairman Sam Olens, now the Georgia Attorney General.
