High Marks For East Cobb Legislators

Sen. Judson Hill and Rep. Sharon Cooper were praised in Americans for Prosperity's Georgia scorecard.

The Georgia chapter of Americans for Prosperity released its 2011-2012 Georgia General Assembly Legislative scorecard this month, with two East Cobb legislators receiving high marks.

State Sen. Judson Hill and State Rep. Sharon Cooper, both Republicans, earned A+ and A designations for their votes, based on the conservative group's positions.

State Rep. Matt Dollar, another East Cobb Republican, received a grade of C.

Legislators were scored on 12 pieces of legislation, including Zero Based Budgeting (SB 33), Student Scholarships (HB 325), Revenue & Tax Relief Act (HB 386) and the Georgia Government Accountability Act (HB 456).

Dollar voted against AFP positions on SB 332, the County Use Sales Tax Act, and SB 402, the Employees Retirement System Enchanced Investing Authority Act. He did not vote on HB 47, which would have offered health insurance offered in other states, and HB 325. AFP favored both bills.

Cooper also voted against HB 47 and did not vote on HB 456, which AFP supported, calling for regular review of every state agency and government waste elimination.

In addition, Congressman Tom Price, a Roswell Republican who represents East Cobb in the U.S. House of Representatives, earned an A grade from AFP.

Hill and Cooper are unopposed in their bids for re-election. In state House District 45, Dollar is opposed in the July 31 Republican primary by EAST COBBER publisher Cynthia Rozzo and Nick Johnson, an East Cobb small business owner.

Price will have Democratic opposition in November in the heavily Republican 6th District of Georgia.
