Longtime East Cobb civic activist Karen Hallacy will announce her campaign for the Georgia General Assembly on Thursday.

Hallacy will make her candidacy official at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Georgia Rib Company restaurant, 4930 Davidson Road.

She will be running as a Republican for the House District 45 seat held by Republican Matt Dollar since 2003.

Hallacy has been a registered education lobbyist at the Georgia Capitol and currently is the legislative chair for the Walton High School PTSA. She also has served in various legislative- and lobbying-related capacities with the East Cobb County Council of PTAs, the Georgia PTA, the Cobb Board of Education and the East Cobb Civic Association.

Hallacy, who was the 2012 East Cobb Citizen of the Year, recently was appointed to the Development Authority of Cobb County.

“I look forward to an engaging campaign, where an honest dialogue regarding the future of our state and community can take place," Hallacy said in a statement.

“I have been encouraged by community leaders all over the district to take this step for our community and look forward to conducting a grassroots campaign."

Dollar fended off a primary challenge in 2012 from EAST COBBER magazine publisher Cynthia Rozzo in the heavily Republican District 45 (see map), which includes parts of East Cobb, Roswell and Sandy Springs.

The 2014 primary elections are scheduled for May 20.

Karen Hallacy will be a great citizen legislator when Cobb voters elect her. I can personally vouch for her work ethic as a volunteer, having worked with her on Georgia PTA's Legislative Committee for many years and having watched her level of commitment to her community on many issues. She will be an outstanding addition to the Legislative delegation! I only wish she could be my Representative!

Has anyone seen Matt Rock in years? Last I heard, he was given a committee to chair, owing to his many years in the legislature but it was a committee that never met. But it might look good on campaign literature,
