Gingrich Expected to Suspend Campaign

The former East Cobb-based House Speaker is likely to announce the end of his GOP presidential bid on Tuesday.

Newt Gingrich's presidential campaign has been fizzling for weeks.

Early next week, the former House Speaker is expected to put a formal end to his bid to become the Republican Party nominee.

CNN reported that two unnamed sources close to Gingrich said the former East Cobb Congressman and House Speaker would suspend his campaign in Washington on Tuesday.

According to Fox News, a campaign source said Gingrich would then endorse former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

Romney swept to easy victories Tuesday in the Delaware, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New York primaries, adding to his delegate count in what is essentially an unopposed field.

Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum dropped out of the race earlier this month. Gingrich soldiered on grudingly at times since he won the Georgia primary in March.

What do you think of Newt Gingrich's apparent decision to end his presidential bid? What did you think of his campaign? Tell us in the comments.

But his impact as a candidate figures to be an uneven one even in GOP circles. As former White House spokesman and CNN analyst Ari Fleischer said: "He has not made a good case for his name after this primary is over. And that's a shame, because Newt's done a lot for the Republican Party, but graciousness is part of politics. You just have to know when your time has come to walk off the stage."

Gingrich made several stops in Smyrna-Vinings while campaigning in Georgia earlier this year, including a rally at the Atlanta Marriot Northwest and special appearance at a Cobb Chamber of Commerce breakfastHe even held his victory party in Smyrna.

But in his former Congressional District, Gingrich  in 29 East Cobb precincts.

Hurray for the "old school" which just means having a few manners. Ms. Smith alwaysRead More seems to present three facts after what seems to be extensive research. People can disagree without being rude or spouting half truths. I'm glad we still have some ethical and honest people in our midst.
