Friday Is Cobb Furlough Day

All government offices and libraries are closed today.

If you need to return library books, renew your car tag or pick up a police incident report, you're out of luck today.

That's because Friday is the third of five designated furlough days across Cobb County government through the end of the current fiscal year in September.

All county courts also are closed Friday.

The Cobb Board of Commissioners imposed the furloughs while issuing 10 percent across-the-board budget cuts in all county departments in May to close a $31 million mid-year budget gap.

The five furlough days all come on a Friday, with some of them extending long holiday weekends.

The remaining furlough days are on Aug. 5 and Sept. 2.

Cobb library branches at East Cobb, East Marietta and Mountain View will be open on Saturday. Most other Cobb government offices and agencies will reopen on Tuesday, after the Independence Day holiday weekend.
