Hermi Pedestrian Bridge Ribbon Cutting

The Cobb County Department of Transportation invites the community to attend ribbon cutting for new Hermi Pedestrian Bridge. Since 1984 the bridge was named after Hermi Alexander who was killed by drunk driver in 1983.  Hermi Alexander and her husband Cecil Alexander had both been instrumental in saving the bridge from destruction.  Mr. Alexander will be present at the ribbon cutting speaking in honor of his wife. The ceremony will include speakers Commissioner Bob Ott, Cobb DOT Director Faye DiMassimo, Attorney General-elect Sam Olens and Cobb Chairman Tim Lee. Designated parking will be available at Canoe Restaurant.

The bridge has been a fixture in the community since 1903.  Due to its disrepair, the bridge was closed to pedestrians in 2006.  Cobb County, City of Atlanta, the PATH Foundation and Cecil Alexander raised money to restore the bridge.
