According to the Georgia Department of Labor, metro Atlanta’s jobless rate rose to 8.6 percent in May from 8.5 percent the previous month, still lower than Georgia’s seasonally adjusted employment rate of 8.9 percent.
GDOL attributed the increase to an influx of job seekers — 16,578 were added in May. Of those looking for work, 10,570 found jobs within a month.
