Cobb County Funds Improved Emergency Preparedness Infrastructure

The county will use $13.3 million dollars of capital funds money to pay for upgrades to the county's emergency response systems.

The Cobb County Board of Commissioners has approved a $13.3 million project to upgrade the hardware and software of the county's emergency radio system.

According to the Marietta Daily Journal, the deal with Motorola Solutions is not due to an increased volume of calls or slowed response times, but a desire to stay on the cutting edge of emergency services technology.

The funding for the project is coming from a capital projects fund that Cobb County has been putting money into since 2005. The county expects to continue its commitment to investing in the fund due to the ephemeral nature of technology.

The county's 911 call center answers roughly 800,000 calls a year, and has been in operation since 1987.
