Cobb Commissioners to Hear Budget Presentation

The Cobb Board of Commissioners will hear a formal fiscal year 2014 budget presentation during their regularly scheduled work session on Tuesday.

The work session begins at 1:30 p.m. in the 2nd floor BOC room, 100 Cherokee Street, Marietta.

Last month the commissioners voted to reduce the property tax rate from 11.11 mills to 10.91 mills -- a savings of around $14 for a $200,000 home -- after the 2013 Cobb tax digest reflected a small net loss of -0.36 percent.

In voting to support the millage rate reduction, East Cobb Commissioner Bob Ott said the property tax rate could be reduced further.

The adopted fiscal year 2013 budget is $737 million.

A public hearing on the proposed 2014 budget will take place at 2 p.m. on Sept. 3, with adoption scheduled for Sept. 10 at a meeting that begins at 9 a.m.
