Warrant: Man Kept East Cobb Child

Michael Paul Gomez must adhere to conditions spelled out in a divorce decree established by the Cobb County Superior Court.

An Acworth man was arrested Friday after the deadline to return his daughter to her East Cobb home passed.

Michael Paul Gomez must adhere to conditions spelled out in a divorce decree established by the Cobb County Superior Court, according to a Cobb County criminal warrant.

Gomez on Thursday "not only retained possession of his daughter, but advised, upon request by a peace officer for the return of the child to the custodial parent, that he would not return the child until May 17," a Cobb police officer wrote in the warrant.

However, the same scenario played out on May 17.

"The accused once again refused and advised that he would return the child when the custodial parent met with him at a time and location specified by him and agreed to certain conditions," the officer wrote. "The accused then advised that he would return the child only if he were allowed to meet with affiant to voice his concerns for the child's living conditions."

In the middle of arranging a meeting location to do just that, Gomez allegedly said "he had waited fifteen minutes, had an 'appointment' to attend and would return the child to the custodial parent when she agreed to meet with him at a time convenient for him," records show.

He was arrested about 7:45 p.m. Friday in the 500 block of Park Ridge Circle on a charge of interference with custody. He was released Saturday afternoon from the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on a $1,500 bond.
