Child in Cobb Dies After Left In Vehicle on Wednesday

Cobb police say a 22-month-old child has died after apparently mistakenly being left in the back of an SUV all day on Wednesday. 

WSB TV reported late Wednesday afternoon that the child’s distraught father was taken away in handcuffs by authorities after discovering that he had not dropped off the toddler at a child care before going to work. It is unknown at this time of possible charges that could be filed.

The child, whose age and gender has not yet been released, may have been in the car as long as eight hours on what was a very hot and humid day in the metro area where temperatures reached the low 90s.

Instead of dropping the child off at daycare, the father allegedly went straight to work, only to discover around 4 p.m. that the child was still strapped in the back seat of the Hyundai Tucson.

It was then that he stopped in a shopping center parking lot located at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Akers Mill Road.

Paramedics unsuccessfully attempted to resuscitate the child.
