Ohio Man Charged in Fatal Cobb Wreck

An Ohio man accused of causing a deadly wreck on Cobb Parkway that killed a Marietta woman was arrested on Thursday.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Thomas Carrol Dempsey, 78, of Cleveland, turned himself in at the Cobb County jail on charges stemming from the March 20 accident that occurred near the exit ramp from the Canton Road Connector.

Dempsey was charged with vehicular homicide in the second degree, failure to maintain lane and driving too fast for conditions in the death of Anna Marie Woodard, 25. She was critically injured in the accident and died from her injuries on March 29.

Marietta police investigators believe a 2011 Toyota Highlander operated by Dempsey was on the exit ramp from the Canton Road Connector towards Cobb Parkway when he lost control of his vehicle and left the roadway. 

Marietta Officer David Baldwin previously said the Highlander traveled through the grass at a high rate of speed and struck a ditch causing the vehicle to become airborne. The Highlander landed on top of a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup that was traveling in the northbound lanes of Cobb Parkway.

Woodward was an occupant in the pickup that was driven by 56-year-old Boris Woodard of Marietta.

The AJC reports that an arrest warrant was issued for Dempsey on April 1. Dempsey was released late Thursday morning after posting $25,000 bond.
