Motorist Killed in Lower Roswell Accident

An East Cobb man died and a passenger was injured early Saturday.

An East Cobb man died early Saturday morning in a one-car crash on Lower Roswell Road, according to Cobb Police.

Roosevelt Schimmel, 62, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred around 1:20 a.m. on Lower Roswell Road near Surrey Trail, Cobb Police Officer Michael Bowman said in a release.

A passenger in Schimmel's car, Michele Pierce, 34, of Smyrna, was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, Bowman said.

Police say Schimmel was driving a black 2013 BMW M6 convertible westbound on Lower Roswell and was attempting a right curve when he lost control of the car, which left the road and hit a mailbox.

The BMW slid down a sloped shoulder of the road and started to flip before slamming a utility pole, according to police, who said that Pierce was trapped in the car and had to be pulled out by the Cobb Fire Department.

The area of Lower Roswell where the accident occurred is east of Johnson Ferry Road, and just south of Timber Ridge Road.

Bowman said alcohol and speed were factors in the accident, and asked that anyone with information call Cobb Police at 770-499-3987.
