Increased visibility is extremely important on Halloween night; make sure your children are well lit and easily seen as they walk at night.
Encourage your children to walk one side of the roadway and then the other. Going from house to house across the street is dangerous. They should only visit houses that are well lit and remain outside the residence.
Have a plan for your older children that are Trick or Treating. Make sure you know their route in case you need to go find them and have them home at a reasonable time.
Halloween is on a weeknight this year and most people have to get up for work and school in the morning. Have them keep a cell phone with them and remind them that if they are in danger, they should call 911 first and then follow up with a parent.
Driving your children from house to house can create a dangerous situation with all of the pedestrian traffic. Please park your vehicles and walk; it’s good for your health.

Even some adults still like to go out trick or treating. It makes them feel young and happy again. Some parents like to take first dibs on some of the candy that the kids have picked up during the night. It's their reward for taking them around from house to house!
We suggest that you watch the candy intake when you all get home, too much at one time can lead to stomach aches and indigestion. That includes mom and dad as well! Instruct your children not to eat any treats until they bring them home to be examined by you.
This way you can check for any problem candy and get the pick of the best stuff!
