East Cobb OB/GYN Fire Probed

Flames engulfed a Powers Ferry Road office building that houses a clinic providing abortion services.

Cobb Fire and federal investigators are continuing to look into the cause of a fire at a Powers Ferry Road office building Wednesday afternoon.

A building at the Governor's Ridge complex sustained "extensive damage," Cobb Fire spokeswoman Lt. Denell Boyd told multiple media outlets.

According to CBS Atlanta, Boyd said 20 firefighters were needed to put out the flames in the building that includes an obstetrics and gynecology practice owned by Dr. William McBrayer. There were no injuries reported.

McBrayer is a well-known provider of abortion services in the Atlanta area, and anti-abortion protestors occasionally picket outside Governor's Ridge, according to a report by WSB-TV

The station also reported that clinic workers said two unknown men went to the third floor of the building, where McBrayer's office is located, and left shortly before the fire broke out.

The fire was the second this week at an Atlanta-area OB/GYN office, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, which reported that a fire broke out at Gwinnett County clinic early Sunday morning.

The Marietta Daily Journal reported early Thursday that the FBI and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms have been called into the Governor's Ridge investigation, and that the the fire is being treated as an arson.

The report said the FBI is describing a possible suspect as a white male, around six feet tall, and that McBrayer's clinic is remaining closed for the time being.

The FBI is asking that anyone with information about the incident to call 404-679-9000.

I find the information in the news regarding the " break ins" to be propaganda. No videos to prove anything was even stolen. I can say someone broke into my home and stole my computer as well , who is to say it wasn't? The info about the " other fire" is not correct. It was not a " clinic" it was an Obgyn office and they don't even perform abortions.

Former patients of Dr. McBrayer need to be aware that his office in Cobb County GA. is unlicensed. It is well known that he uses heavy anesthia and yet, on this morning " none was used"? Pretty conveinent since it usually takes 2 employees to escort patients to their cars after their procedures. This btw, is not proper standard of care, and could be considered negligent as all patients should be able to walk theirselves out of the facility prior to being discharged, and you should NEVER have to be carried out of the building! If this has happened to you please report this negligence and any other complications you may have suffered to the Georgia Composite Board of Medical Directors ASAP! Abortion should be safe if it is legal, corners should never be cut. Doctors like McBrayer don't carry malpractice insurance and most lawyers won't even sue unless you die during your abortion. Does this sound like safe and legal abortion to you?
